PREGNANCY WEEK 14 – April 25, 2015
And so begins the second trimester! Bring on the “honeymoon period” of the pregnancy please! I have noticed that I am feeling overall more like a human and my exhaustion seems to be lessening. It’s exciting to break the 14 week mark since every pregnant woman looks forward to the day she can say goodbye to the dreadful first trimester.
We did have a scary experience this week. On Wednesday morning, I went to the dentist, and while there I noticed some brown spotting when I went to the bathroom. This alarmed me, but I couldn’t do anything about it at that moment. After the appointment I checked again and had the same thing, still very little/light amount, but enough to make me feel uneasy. I was meeting some friends at the zoo after my appointment, so I decided to call my office after I finished up at the zoo to see what their thoughts were. After walking around the zoo for a few hours & being on my feet, I stopped at the bathroom again and felt rising panic since my spotting had slightly increased from what it had been earlier that morning. As we walked out of the zoo, one of my good friends sensed something was wrong with me, and I burst into tears and told her about what was going on. She was such a good friend and told me everything was likely fine, but to call my doctor and see if they could see me if that would give me peace of mind. She offered to take Winter home with her so I could jet off to an appointment. She was a lifesaver. The midwife was able to squeeze me in right away, so I drove there, praying that the baby was okay and desperately hoping to hear a strong heartbeat once I arrived. Thankfully, the baby is perfectly healthy and fine. We quickly found a strong heartbeat of 158 bpm, and baby was very active. The midwife said he or she was doing flips in there. She said strong heartbeat combined with an active baby is great news. Most likely the spotting was old cervical blood, nothing to do with the baby at all. I am SO THANKFUL and grateful to God that the baby is fine and healthy. I would like to NOT experience that stress again. I see the midwife again at 16 weeks, so it’ll be nice to only have to wait two more weeks for my next appointment.
Much to say this week! The last thing I want to write is about announcing the pregnancy. Over the past week, we told more people about the pregnancy because I wanted to eventually announce on Facebook, but I wanted certain people to find out through us directly first. So today, at 14 weeks, we put up our announcement with the caption, “Eric and I are excited to announce that we will be adding a baby to our family in October. Winter will be the best big sister.” It was really fun to watch all of the “likes” and comments come through. People are excited for us. We ended up with 238 likes, which boggles my mind! It feels good to have friends share our excitement.
My age: 29
How far along: 14 weeks
How big is baby: the size of a lemon
Gender: Unknown
Events of this week: Last weekend we went to Glenwood Springs and celebrated Eric’s birthday, went to the hot springs (I didn’t get in the HOT one) and had a date night. This week we went to dinner with friends, I had my biannual dentist visit, we went to the zoo with friends, I went to see the movie The Longest Ride in the theatre with two girlfriends, and we finally announced our pregnancy on Facebook today!
Symptoms: Less tired overall, having trouble drinking enough water because it makes me nauseous, itchy and tender boobs, occasional pains in my hip flexors when I stand up from sitting, occasional nausea, growing out of my normal clothes because this belly is getting bigger.
Exercise/Activity: I only exercised one day this week, a run on the treadmill….but that was on purpose only once. My spotting scare made me take it VERY easy and use extra precaution the rest of the week. I hope to resume some exercise again this coming week.
Sleep: Sleeping better. Still having nightly crazy dreams. Not getting up to pee every single night like I was before.
Maternity clothes: I put on maternity pants for the first time on Thursday. I’ve still been making do with my normal jeans, but it’s so uncomfortable walking around with pants unbuttoned. I will likely start wearing maternity pieces more from here on out since they are more comfortable.
Stretch marks: No.
Belly Button: In.
Food cravings: Sprite, carbs, pasta.
Food aversions: Chicken.
Movement: I started feeling some flutters this week! So early this pregnancy. It feels like a fish swimming in a tiny fishbowl–in slow motion.
Best Moment of the Week: Two things….first was the exciting feeling of baby’s first movements that I could feel. So special. The other was the relief I felt at the midwife when I got to hear a strong heartbeat after a spotting scare.
Worst Moment of the Week: Having some light spotting that resulted in me panicking and thinking it was the beginnings of a miscarriage. Thankfully baby is perfectly fine and healthy and the spotting stopped.
What I’m looking forward to: Finding out if we have a girl or boy growing in my tummy. We won’t find out until 20 weeks.
What I’m nervous about/praying for: After that scare this week, I have been daily thanking God for a healthy and growing baby. I just continue to pray that he or she will be fine.
What I miss: My clothes fitting.
Next appointment: Monday, May 11, 2015 at 9:20 a.m.
